Yoga balls
Yoga balls are also called Swiss balls, exercise balls,
fitness balls, balance balls and many other names all referring to the
same concept. In yoga they are used to increase flexibility and strength
and improve balance. New styles of yoga have been developed to include
even more use of Swiss balls.
Yoga balls also facilitate the following:
• Strength development and control of core muscles, especially
in the back and abdomen
• Increased range of motion and flexibility of the back, particularly
the lower back
• Improved balance and stability
The diameter range of yoga balls typically ranges from 14 to 34 inches.
The balls are made from a very elastic type of rubber and are often
used in physical therapy. People who work sedentary jobs sometimes use
Swiss balls instead of an office chair. This forces them to sit using
proper posture to maintain balance on the ball; improved posture leads
to improved back health.
